What You'll Be Doing Main Function: The Nurse Practitioner is prepared to deliver primary health care, including but not limited to: recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries in the Emergency Department setting, some of which may be determined by protocol; provision of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on the early detection and treatment of disease, as well as prevention. Assesses plans and provides patient care under the supervision of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Assists in pre- and post-operative procedures, such as patient transport, completion of pre-op checklist and reception of patient from PACU/OR. Utilizes measures to insure patient safety and promotes a restraint free environment. Maintains use of restraints for patients under the direction of a RN and according to set policies and procedures. Provides care to the deceased as well as the involved family/significant other. Assists the professional registered nurse in the collaborative plan for patient education participating in patient/teaching activities. Maintains a safe, clean and functional environment, including ensuring for the comfortable movement of the patient. Assists the patient in room maintenance, such as bed-stripping and trash removed, when necessary. Performs one-to-one observation of patients on constant observation status, e.g., for safety, elopement, or suicide prevention. Performs correct infection control techniques and maintains isolation status for patients under direction of a RN and according to set procedures.
