Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents. Job Description General Summary This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses who have greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Principal Responsibilities And Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. Clinical Practice: Provides independent care to unit specific patient population; serves as clinical resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, functions effectively in roles specific to unit (as defined by each department/unit) Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care. Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance. Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse; collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs. 5. Serves as clinical resource for others. Service/Quality: Assists in team development and evaluation of tenants of Patient and Family Centered Care , suggests methods for improvement. Participates in collection of data related to outcomes (e.g. hand offs, medication safety, etc). Participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI). Participates and contributes to Performance Improvement, or Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level. Complies with standards and participates with unit level activities for regulatory compliance. Unit Operations: Supports charge nurse decisions; performs charge role for assigned shifts as needed. Assists in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for unit. Participates in unit-based process activities: Performance Improvement, Professional Development, Clinical Practice, Teamwork, etc.; assists in development of action plans and supports implementation. Orients Clinical Nurse I to unit level decision making structure and councils. Professional Development: Serves as preceptor, coach, mentor to new nurses and students. Contributes to ancillary personnel skills and development, attends educational offerings and in-services independently. Qualifications Education & Experience Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes. One year nursing experience. Solid knowledge and clinical skills. Diploma in nursing or Associates Degree in nursing required. Current BLS certification required. Unit based licensure as required for the role as defined at the unit/department level. (examples include but are not limited to Neonatal Resuscitation Program [NPR], Certification in Pre-Transport/Post-Resuscitation Stabilization Care of Sick Infants for Neonatal Healthcare Providers [STABLE], Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support [ACLS), Trauma 101, etc.) Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years. Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Responsible for maintaining competencies required for the patient care setting; focus on advancing own professional development Ability to practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the Role of the Professional Nurse Job Charter/Description and Commitment to Excellence Behavioral Standards.. GRADE 24 LOCATION OF POSITION MDH, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, Jessup, MD Main Purpose of Job This position supports the mission and vision of Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center (CTPHC) by providing executive leadership, strategic oversight, and system-wide coordination of the hospital’s Quality, Safety, and Performance Improvement infrastructure. This position ensures that quality assurance, performance improvement, risk management, patient safety, and environment of care programs are effectively integrated across all service lines in alignment with federal, state, and accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission and OHCQ). This position champions a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning, ensuring that care delivery systems within CTPHC uphold the highest standards of clinical excellence, patient rights, and patient safety. This position develops, implements, and monitors data-driven quality initiatives to reduce risk, improve patient outcomes, and advance the hospital’s journey toward high reliability and zero harm. Key areas of accountability include: Oversight and coordination of Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Environment of Care programs. Leadership of survey readiness, accreditation compliance, and regulatory response activities. Facilitation of root cause analyses, failure mode and effects analyses, and other quality methodologies to proactively identify and mitigate risk. Collaboration with interdisciplinary leadership to ensure safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented care for individuals adjudicated as Not Criminally Responsible (NCR) or Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST). This position receives managerial supervision from the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a strategic advisor to the hospital’s Executive Leadership Team, Quality Council, and governing bodies on all matters related to patient safety, quality performance, and regulatory compliance. CTPHC is looking for candidates with a working knowledge of Joint Commission standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, and state regulatory requirements; demonstrated experience leading Root Cause Analyses (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives; experience managing incident reporting systems and monitoring corrective actions; familiarity with infection prevention principles, risk management processes, and data-driven quality improvement methods (e.g., PDSA cycles, Lean, or Six Sigma); and, excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, staff education, and collaboration with regulatory and clinical partners. CTPHC is also looking for candidates who possess experience in quality, safety, or performance improvement in a psychiatric, forensic, or correctional healthcare setting, demonstrated success leading regulatory readiness and survey response activities (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, MDH Office of Health Care Quality), building or modernizing Quality Management Systems — including dashboards, data reporting structures, and PI committees, and a proven track record of fostering a Just Culture and promoting staff engagement in quality and safety initiatives. Leadership competencies are also desired (i.e., ability to lead and influence interdisciplinary teams across clinical, security, and administrative domains, skills in coaching leaders on incident analysis, documentation improvement, and systems-based problem solving, and strong change management, training, and project management skills aligned with hospital modernization goals. Minimum Qualifications Education: A Master's degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university. Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting including two years in a supervisory, consultative, teaching or administrative capacity.
