Description This 40 hour per week Externship Program is open to applicants that have completed their medical assistant coursework and are now seeking a paid externship for the completion of their hours. This is a ( 60) day/temporary position. Surgical Technologists (ST) are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. ST work under medical supervision to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. ST work under the supervision of a surgeon and a Registered Nurse to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions to maximize patient safety. ST possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
