Job Description Administrative Supervisors are responsible for supervising and directing administrative and operational support activities for all Centra hospitals. The Administrative Supervisor maintains a global perspective of hospital and nursing operations. The Administrative Supervisor represents hospital administration to the public and internal and external customers. The Administrative Supervisor acts as a consultant, mentor, and advisor in day-to-day hospital operations. The Administrative Supervisor facilitates Centra's strategic plan and supports the practice of the professional nurse as reflected by the American Association's Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia. Responsibilities Oversees the day-to-day operation of the entire facility hours/day, days/week. Serves as petitioner in the absence of hospital administration. Delegates and coordinates available resources to meet global organization needs. Serves as a resource for staffers in assigning Resource Team (Lynchburg campuses only). Serves as a resource for patient placement and bed management decisions. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with other departments, disciplines, leadership executives, and physicians. Displays and promotes a positive public relations approach to staff, physicians, visitors and families. Addresses issues promptly. Serves as back-up to the Vascular Access Team during business hours and after hours to provide venous access to patients, as competencies allow. Acts as an information resource to management staff, employees and staff on policies, procedures and practices. Facilitates patient flow within the organization. Maintains a global perspective and collaborates with other areas within Centra to facilitate patient placement. Collaborates with units and other disciplines to eliminate barriers to patient flow. Collaborates with staffing, charge nurses, shift managers, and unit managers to address and resolve patient care, staffing issues, or disciplinary problems. Elevates issues or concerns to Nursing Directors or other parties when needed. Serves as coordinator for all code situations within the organization. Serves as a coordinator for disaster control and trauma alerts. Serves as a resource and responder to MET calls. Qualifications Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing and/or MSN but may consider candidates in the process of completing bachelors degree with a set completion date as defined by an approved education agreement Required Experience: Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience Preferred Experience: Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse. Demonstrated leadership qualities including counseling skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, collaboration, excellent communication skills, facilitation and problem solving skills. Demonstrated proficiency in IV skills Required Certifications and Licensures: Current Virginia or Multistate Nursing Registration, Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card. Report problem areas to the DON. • Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel and make appropriate reports to the Director, as required or as may be necessary. • Confirm that all nursing personnel participate in the facility’s TB testing program. • Provide the DON with information relative to the nursing needs of the resident and to the nursing department’s ability to meet those needs. • Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc. • Make rounds with physicians, as necessary. • Inform the DON when physician visits are not made in a timely manner. • Review nurses’ notes to verify that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes. • Schedule daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being met. • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to verify that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled. • Report problem areas to DON and assist in developing and implementing corrective action. • Comply with, support and enforce Company policies involving all safety and infection control procedures to include the proper use of mechanical lifts and gait belts. • Monitor nursing personnel to verify that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies. • Verify that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. • Participate in the development and implementation of the procedures for the safe operation of all nursing equipment; verify that all equipment is operated in a safe manner. • Monitor nursing procedures to verify that nursing supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste. • Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident. • Assist the MDS/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling and revising the MDS, including the implementation of the care plans. • Participate in the development of a written care plan (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible. • Verify that all personnel involved in providing care to the resident are aware of the resident’s care plan. Verify that nursing personnel refer to the resident’s care plan prior to administering daily care to the resident. • Review nurses’ notes to determine if the care plan is being followed. • Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to verify that a team effort is achieved in developing their resident’s comprehensive care plan. • Review complaints and grievances made by the resident and make a written/oral report to the DON indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve the complaint or grievance. Follow facility’s established procedures. • Maintain a written record of the resident’s complaints and/or grievances that indicates the action taken to resolve the complaint and the current status of the complaint. • Regularly inspect the facility and nursing practices for compliance with company, federal, state, and local standards and regulations. • Report and investigate all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property. • Verify that nursing personnel honor the resident’s refusal of treatment request. Confirm that such requests are in accordance with the facility’s policies governing advance directives. • Develop positive relationships on behalf of the company with governmental regulators, families, health care community and the community at large. • Fill in as acting DON, Charge Nurse or other nursing position, as needed. • Other special projects and duties, as assigned. Assist in developing restorative care plans for individual residents in coordination and conjunction with the resident assessment (MDS). Review the restorative care requirements of each resident admitted to the facility and assist the attending physician in planning for the resident's care and/or treatment. Verify that care plans indicate restorative care when such therapy is ordered. Complete required assessments and sign-off on all necessary restorative documents. Job Description The professional registered nurse (RN) plans, coordinates, and manages the care provided to assigned patients and practices under the tenets of Centra's Professional Practice Model. The RN acts as the leader in collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team, providing the foundation for creating the interdisciplinary plan of care. Throughout the patient's stay, the RN coordinates the various care processes that are necessary to achieve desired outcomes, and delegates, as appropriate. Job Description The Hospice Liaison Nurse is dedicated to working with all departments and entities within Centra to support the continuum of care. Job responsibilities will include collaboration with Hospice, Palliative Care, and English One program Medical Directors and patient support staff (Nurses, Social Workers, Nursing Assistants, Attending Physicians, Clinical Effective Staff, Pastoral Care, Volunteers, etc.) to assist in the development of the patient plan of care extending from a hospital stay to return home. Home may represent any place of residence. Job responsibilities will focus on identifying patient and family needs and setting goals to achieve best results and outcomes. Liaison will collaborate with Hospice Physicians for eligibility. The Hospice Liaison Nurse will also collaborate with community nursing facilities and physician practices to expand the continuum of care to the level of care needed to find best results for patients and families.
