Job Description
The Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced training as a physician extender. The Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with a physician to provide medical services within protocols established by the supervising physician. Such medical services may include history and physical exams, treatment of specific illnesses or injuries, both chronic and acute. The Nurse Practitioner may perform other services that have traditionally been reserved for physicians.

Responsibilities
Performs history and physical examinations
Works under the medical direction and supervision of a licensed physician to provide medical services at Centra facilities and outreach locations
Provides clinical support to nursing staff for care of complex patients
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and development needs, psychological status, psychosocial and spiritual needs of clients served
Screens hospitalized patient charts referred for noninvasive testing to determine most appropriate test
Coordinates and implements discharge plans that include follow-up care, diet, equipment and medication
Completes progress notes, admission and discharge summaries, collaborates with patients' physicians to provide holistic care
Functions as an expert practitioner in the area of specialization, maintaining a current and relevant knowledge base in the field
Serve and care for our patients, customers, and each other
Provide high quality, service and courtesy to all
Practices according to Centra's Customer Service Performance Standards
Displays and promotes a positive public relations
Serves a major role of patients advocate
Provides patients and families with education and support
Promote department efficiency and improvement
Willing to serve on committees
Makes weekend rounds if required on a rotating basis per Medical Director
Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with physicians and staff in other departments
Provides formal staff education as requested and informal education as needed
Assists in development of systems to manage and "use" data from national databases and hospital data to improve care
Participates on committees which focus on improving patient care by improving delivery of care
Qualifications
Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. Masters of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN)
Required Experience: Minimum of five (5+) years of progressive experience in area of specialization. Nationally recognized certification in field of specialization
Required Certifications and Licensures: Current licensure by the Virginia State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority. Maintains BLS and ACLS Certifications. Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse
