OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis, Indiana,
provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms and a
42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as
disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint
replacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics, pre-op
clinic, imaging and physical therapy.
General Statement of Duties:
The Registered Nurse PPOP PACU provides nursing care and service during the preoperative and postoperative periods, integrating and making nursing judgments pertaining to the patient’s condition on a routine and emergency basis. The position oversees the supervision of all non-licensed personnel, while also receiving direction from Physicians.
Essential Duties:
- Monitors and assesses patient condition and reports any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to manager and appropriate Physicians.
- Completes treatments and procedures as ordered and assigned by the Physician, consistent with patient complexity and commensurate with the skill, knowledge, and training of the individual.
- Provides care safely, with adequate quality, quantity, and timeliness and according to applicable standards.
- Admits patients to all areas within pre and post-operative and post-anesthesia services, and receives and reviews pre post-operative report.
- Sets-up, operates and monitors the use of various systems, equipment and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
- Reviews and initiates Physician’s orders, administers medication, parenteral fluids and treatment as needed.
- Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed. Distributes educational material as appropriate.
- Maintains medication and nursing documentation within the patient record.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and development levels of patients served.
