Charge Nurse / Assistant to the Center Leader / RN

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS, and RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY:

Role is 80% focused on patient care and 20% on administrative responsibilities.
No Weekends or Holidays!

Communication:

Work collaboratively with center leadership in supervising and directing nursing care and patient scheduling according to center policies, procedures, and objectives.
Effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors, the general public, and physicians.

Patient Care:

Analyze and evaluate nursing care to improve the quality of care given.
Coordinate patient-care activities with surgeons and anesthesia providers to provide continuity of patient care.
Assist Center staff in identifying and solving problems.
Participate in primary care of patients and oversee clinical areas to verify that patient needs are met.
Enforce nursing practice standards and licensing/accreditation rules and regulations to provide quality patient care.
Work collaboratively with scheduling personnel to coordinate procedure scheduling.
Liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to promote quality patient care.
Recommend revision of patient-care policies and procedures as necessary to conform to accepted principles and practices.
Respond to emergency situations and maintain professional competency.
Oversee all nursing activities during emergencies to ensure all patient needs are met.
Manage optimal patient and staff flow to prevent opportunities for healthcare acquired and surgical site infections.
Analyze clinical documentation to ensure the Center’s policies and procedures are followed.
Support and direct services provided based on policies and procedures, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.

Staffing:

Monitor staff (FTE) utilization and make recommendations that promote cost-effective scheduling practices.
Assist with comprehensive and informative orientation programs for new clinical employees.
Recommend continuing education opportunities for clinical staff to Center Director, assisting in providing education as requested. Share knowledge gained in continuing education with staff.
Prepare clinical staffing schedules in accordance with vacations, holidays, daily personnel assignments, and duties according to experience and skill level to provide quality patient care; review and adjust assignments as needed based on daily activity.
Ensure staff are cross trained to provide a productive and efficient work environment across all clinical areas as appropriate. Review daily time and attendance sheets and maintain attendance logs as required.
Observe and evaluate the performance of all clinical personnel, working to continuously improve the quality of care and services provided.
Work with Center Director to evaluate suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care.
Interpret and enforce established Center policies and procedures.

Safety:

Promote adherence to safety policies and procedures while performing job duties and responsibilities.
Work with Center Director to implement best practices and adopt regulations that ensure safety in the workplace.
Monitor the Center’s clinical environment and initiate methods for maintaining safety, comfort, cleanliness, and efficiencies.
Oversee the care, cleaning, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and required maintenance of instruments, supplies, and equipment to maintain proper working conditions.
Identify and evaluate the need for items relative to trends, center personnel requests, and positive patient outcomes; report deficiencies to Center Director.
Identify and report deficiencies in services of contracted providers (e.g., pathology, radiology, housekeeping) to Center Director.
Working with the Safety Officer, assist in the resolution of observed or suspected safety violations and hazards to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
Submit information to a licensed healthcare risk manager for preparation of risk management reports per State requirements.
Ensure that OSHA requirements are met by healthcare team and that necessary supplies are readily available.

Financial and Materials Management:

Promote cost containment and the efficient use of center resources.
Analyze clinical areas and provide recommendations on purchasing equipment and supplies that provide for optimum patient care within budget allowances.
Assist in the development and implementation of capital and operating budgets as required.

General:

Actively participate in center committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.
Share input regarding short and long-term goals.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Comprehensive knowledge of surgery center business operations.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability for self-direction and initiative.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience working with Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Education/Experience:

Registered Nurse in the State of TX.
Gastroenterology and Supervisory experience in a hospital suite or ASC setting.
Two (2) or more years of healthcare management experience.
One (1) or more years of experience in an ASC preferred.

Other Qualifications:

Must be able to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner. Must be detail oriented and organized. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercise good judgment and to positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and effectiveness. Based on business needs, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as approved in advance. Must pass a background check and drug screen.

Compensation:

Hourly pay rate will flex from $40.86 - $43.27 (annualized at $85K – $90K) dependent upon experience, with a guaranteed year-end bonus, full benefits provided by AMSURG including matching 401(K) Plan, and a generous PTO Plan.
