Summary
Responsible for managing all aspects of clinical operations in the Cancer Center and Outpatient Infusion Department, including supervising the clinical personnel, establishing and maintaining positive relationships with customers and referral sources, responding to customer requests and concerns and achieving optimal outcomes that are consistent with patient satisfaction goals and outcomes criteria. Ensures patient care is coordinated and managed appropriately. Ensures that care and services are delivered appropriately. The Cancer Center is a five day a week service line, and the Outpatient Infusion service line is open 7 days a week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Hires, oversees training, counsels when necessary, and evaluates direct-reporting staff positions.
- Remains competent in clinical skills and assists in patient care and procedures as needed.
- Provides clinical oversight and subject matter expertise in outpatient oncology as well as non-oncology infusion services.
- Completes employee performance evaluation by due date.
- Assures that schedule is complete and coverage is present for hours of operation.
- Monitors staff turnover, identifying variances and trends and initiates action when indicated.
- Establishes work standards that provide a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Monitors that patient confidentiality is observed.
- Provides unit audits and statistics as needed.
- Assures that Policies and Procedures related to the Cancer Center and administration of chemotherapy are kept current reflecting regulatory requirements and best practice.
- Serves as the Oncology representative on committees, task forces or project teams.
- Ensures regulatory compliance and survey readiness.
- Actively applies communication principles.

- Recognizes when change is necessary in systems or self.
- Assists the Director with development of the unit operating and capital budgets.
- Implements and monitors approved operating and capital budget.
- Actively supports and participates in the organization-wide Quality Performance Improvement Plan.
- Strives to attain and maintain regional "best practice" recognition as well as standards related to the Cancer Center.
- Performs other duties and activities as delegated by the Director.
- Authorized to act in the absence of the Director of Acute Services.
- Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; administering scheduling systems; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; enforcing policies and procedures.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduation from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing.
Required Licenses and Certificates
- California Registered Nurse (RN) certificate - Upon Hire.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Bio-Chemo certificate - Within 6 months of hire into the job.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) - Within 24 months of hire into the job.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers - Upon Hire
- BLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS certification). - Within 3 months of hire into job
Other Experience/Qualifications
Required
- Two to three years of experience in health care coordination and/or supervision.
