About the Role:
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) at Van Buren House is a Certified Nurse Assistant who has completed state-approved medication administration training and provides resident care under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The CMA administers medications as prescribed, monitors residents for effectiveness and adverse reactions, and documents all care in accordance with MRHC policies, current standards of practice, Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) regulations, and Oklahoma Administrative Code (OAC 310:677-13). This role requires compassionate, attentive care and strong communication skills to ensure resident safety and continuity of care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current CNA and CMA certification in the State of Oklahoma.
- Completion of a CMA training program approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Oklahoma Nurse Aide Registry.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a Medication Aide or in a similar healthcare support role.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes.
- Experience administering medications in a regulated healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with OSDH regulations and long-term care standards.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and document medications in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and facility policies.
- Monitor residents for medication effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions; report concerns to the LPN.
- Obtain and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
- Assist with age-appropriate resident care planning and collaborate with the LPN, resident, and family.
- Communicate resident needs, changes in condition, and transfer or discharge information to the LPN, RN, or Director.
- Participate in interdisciplinary communication to support continuity of care.
- Perform duties within CMA scope of practice and refer questions or concerns to the supervising LPN.
Skills:
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong medication administration skills, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately document resident care. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and function efficiently under LPN supervision. The CMA must exhibit professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment while adhering strictly to regulatory and facility guidelines.
