Job Summary
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides behavioral health care services to patients under the direction and supervision of a physician. This position provides coordination and collaboration of care planning for behavioral health patients with co-morbid conditions, as assigned.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Four years related nursing experience, experience working with a diverse population in an inpatient healthcare setting, excellent working knowledge of pharmacology and evidence-based treatments for psychiatric conditions. Applicant should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to prioritize and manage time efficiently. Must be able to make quick and accurate clinical assessments and have knowledge of medical practices, terminology, and computer software skills.
Working Conditions
May be required to sit for long periods of time.
May be required to kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, reach or climb.
May be required to stand or walk, for a good portion of the workday.
May be required to exert significant force to push, pull or lift objects or move patients.
May be subject to on rot more of the following conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, biological or chemical hazards.
May be subject to extreme temperature conditions indoors and/or outdoors, such as extreme heat or cold and exposure to weather elements.
May be required to operate machinery or equipment.

Essential Functions
- Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, evaluations, monitoring therapies, giving injections, and prescribing medications.
- Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects.
- Follow Up visits for the patients after medical appointments or transfers.
- Provides education to patient and family on managing the condition, and coordinates care with internal and external disease management or case management entities as necessary.
- Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs, and counsels patient, and records progress in electronic medical records systems.
- Documentation on the patient’s medical record is accurate, complete and concise
- Attend regular meetings with psychiatry to foster collaboration in practice management.
- Provides presentation and educational offerings in department as assigned.
- Provides training to clinical staff on new policies, protocols, and procedure as appropriate.
- Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs
- Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs.
- Plans care according to standards of care.
- Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately
- Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary
- Provides education consistent with the patient/family learning abilities and preferences; evaluates outcomes
- Effectively communicates with physician’s, co-workers, patients, families
- Reports pertinent observations regarding patients to physicians and other health care team members
- Maintains National Patient Safety Goals
- Verifies, coordinates and carries out physicians orders accurately
- Assists with coordinating interdepartmental transfers smoothly and efficiently
- Assists with interdepartmental activities (i.e., lab, radiology, etc.) to ensure timely efficient care
- Communicates and coordinates with Case Manager to ensure timely discharge, patient satisfaction and quality care along the continuum of care
- Practices Universal Standard Precautions
- Demonstrates knowledge of practices department safety procedures, including safe handling of equipment and hazardous substances
- Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Education/Certifications
- Master’s Required
- Registered Nursing License in New Jersey
- Licensure for psychiatric advance practice role in New Jersey
- Certificate of Prescriptive Authority in state(s) with jurisdiction over practice location to be obtained within the first 90 days of employment
- National Certification in area of specialty
