Supervises and delivers high quality patient-focused health care services. The Clinical Supervisor, supervises assigned clinic personnel, assesses staffing needs, and ensures that patient dignity and privacy is maintained through the preservation of confidentiality of information and data. The Clinical Supervisor provides clinical expertise, maintains standards of nursing care, participates in continuous quality improvement studies, and assists in developing the departmental operating budget. The Clinical Supervisor ensures that physicians' orders are followed; ensures that patient conditions and progress are accurately reported; ensures that patient care is administered by all professional and non-professional personnel in the clinic according to organization and regulatory policies and guidelines. Other responsibilities include evaluating staff member performance, coordinating equipment maintenance, utilizing appropriate health care resources when needed, assessing staff member continuing education needs, delivering direct patient care, and observing departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Serves as preceptor for clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Practice and Care Management
  • Responsible for appointment and referral scheduling, chart management, providing information and instructions to patients, and coordinating patient flow.
  • Prepares exam room and assists physician during examination, treatment and testing of patient.
  • Performs selected nursing duties, including documenting patient history, vital signs, immunizations and allergies. Prepares, stocks and cleans exam room and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment.
  • Administers prescribed medications/treatments, including IVs in accordance with nursing standards. May perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and assist with Flexsigmoidoscopies.
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Provides complex and basic nursing care measures to all age groups. Assists physician with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks.
  • Observes, records and reports (to physician) patient's condition and reaction to drugs and/or treatments. Instructs patient/family regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and health/wellness issues.
  • Quality
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
  • Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner in order to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high quality health care services.
  • Participates actively in continuous quality improvement and quality assurance studies in an effort to promote conformity with all hospital and divisional regulations and standards
  • Professional Development
  • Observes and adheres to quality standards established by the department. Participates in continuous quality improvement programs in order to foster the provision of quality health care services by the department and hospital and ensures that all services are provided with compassion, understanding, and respect for others.

  • Leadership and Clinical Management
  • Assists in developing and recommending annual department operating and capital budgets and monitors the economical use and procurement of personnel, equipment, and supplies. Ensures that periodic equipment maintenance is carried out in order to control hospital and department costs and ensure the conservation of all hospital resources.
  • Prepares or assists management with performance appraisals, and evaluating the performance of selected employees, and provides feedback to employees. Coordinates schedules and liaises with HR when employee issues arise.
  • Provides leadership and demonstrates critical thinking ability in all areas of responsibility, treats all co-workers with respect, strives to enhance co-worker performance through cooperation and effective communication, and demonstrates hospitality and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Maintains own clinical expertise and ensures that demonstrated clinical competency of staff members to deliver patient care services in accordance with specific identified needs of patients in all age groups. Utilizes appropriate resources as needed for assistance in the planning and delivery of care to infant, pediatric, and adolescent patients.

Qualifications

  • 2 years clinical experience as a licensed nurse
  • Associate's Degree
  • Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communication skills, computer skills
  • Current Louisiana State license as RN and BLS certification
