Urgent care, sometimes known as walk-in care, fast care, or express care, is a convenient option for patients who require timely medical care, but the situation is not an emergency. We treat adults and children ages 3 and older and provide care for a wide range of illnesses and injuries, including allergies, asthma, coughs, bronchitis, colds, flu, COVID-19, fever, headache, broken bones, sprains and strains, eye and ear infections, rashes, cuts, sexually transmitted infections, stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. Because patients typically come to us when they aren't feeling their best, it is incredibly important to us that our staff members strive to provide the compassion and emotional support our patients need.
We are seeking a full-time, 37.5-hour Medical Assistant to work 3, 12.5-hour shifts per week onsite at our Westwood Urgent Care center! The address for this location is 90 Brigham Way, Westwood, MA. Since Urgent Care is a 7-day-per-week operation that delivers care during the day, evening, weekends, and holidays, the schedule for this role will require 2 on-call shifts per 4-week scheduling period, as well as overtime, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed.
We do our best to keep all employees at their assigned centers; however, for on-call shifts, employees must be able to commute to any of our locations, including Boston Common, Brookline, Newton, Natick, Woburn and Lynn. You may also be asked to report to any of these centers during orientation (for training/precepting purposes) or during times of staffing shortages or other extenuating circumstances (for cross-coverage purposes).

Job Summary
SummaryThe role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.
Essential Functions
-Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
-Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
-Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
-Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
-Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
-Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
-Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
-Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred
Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] preferred
Experience
Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.

Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.

Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
