A Place At Home - Philadelphia West is hiring Companions for our senior clients.

The Companion is a non-licensed member of the home care team who provides non-medical care to the client in their residence.

Essential Functions:

  • To provide companionship and mental stimulation for the client.
  • To assist with light housekeeping and organizing.
  • To follow HIPAA guidelines regarding all clients.

Responsibility of a Companion:

  1. To provide stimulation and companionship for the client:
    • Reading
    • Walks
    • Conversation
    • Games
    • Accompanying the client to appointments or on errands
  2. Assist in planning and preparing meals and snacks according to specific dietary requirements as outlined in the client’s care plan. If necessary, the Companion will help with client feedings.
  3. Observe and report on any changes to the following:
    • Client’s physical behavior
    • Client’s mental behavior
    • Potentially unsafe environment changes
  4. Maintain continuity of client care by documenting and communicating with the care team.
  5. Participate in in-services and training as required.

 

Skills/Qualifications: 

Independence, flexibility, good judgment, strong verbal and written communication, physiological knowledge, nutrition, ability to maintain a good client relationship, listening skills, time management, and thoroughness

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Characteristics:  

Flexible, organized, efficient, easy to talk to.

Education/Skills Requirements:

  1. Negative TB test.
  2. Clean background check
  3. Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
  4. General nutrition knowledge necessary for meal planning.
  5. Good oral and written communication skills.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Bending, stooping, walking, and general physical demands of light housekeeping. 
  • May require some lifting.
  • May require longer periods of sitting.
