Job Overview

Shriners Children’s - Portland is seeking a full time manager for its Surgical Services Unit. The Nurse Manager oversees the Perioperative care areas including, Operating Room, PACU, and Recovery.  Manages operating room processes and personnel (Rn's, PACU, Sterile Processing ) to ensure effective planning, coordination, efficiency and quality of OR services.  Follows applicable rules and regulations of state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.  Actively participates in inter and intra-department efforts to ensure optimum patient outcomes. This candidate will have excellent leadership and team-building abilities, excellent communication and collaboration skills and strong business management and organizational skills.

 

Schedule: Full time 1.0 FTE

Compensation is determined  based on years of relevent experience and departmental equity.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice within the OR unit. Supervises activities of surgical services personnel in providing care to patients and family members.
  • Assists in the developing, implementing and tracking unit based key performance indicators supporting Performance Improvement programs and other measurements.
  • Directs employee selection, hiring, orientation, training and ongoing staff development for OR unit.
  • Communicates and maintains liaison with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nursing staff and ancillary personnel in various hospital departments.
  • Demonstrates correct use and operation of required equipment according to written competency checklist procedure on file.
  • Demonstration of professional practice and career development. Maintains clinical competency by successfully completing yearly skills updates, attends in-services and reviews current professional literature and distributes appropriate findings. Maintains memberships in appropriate medical/professional organizations. Formulates and meets annual performance goals.
  • Supervises various personnel actions including, but not limited to, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Maintains ongoing feedback with employees supervised.
