What You Will Do (Job Summary): The Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team. Prepares and maintains supplies, instruments and equipment related to these procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgery Center. Required Skills: High School Diploma or GED. Completion of a Scrub Technician Program. Certified Surgical Tech preferred. Two+ years of experience as a Surgical Tech. Preferably experience in plastics, ENT and Orthopedics. BLS certification. Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Other skills and abilities: General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room. POSITION OVERVIEW: Responsible for maintaining the sterile field in the operating room, being constantly vigilant to see that proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. As a necessary source of knowledge and skills, the Surgical 1st Assist (CSFA) will be well-rounded, helpful, supportive of the surgical team, and have a team-like attitude. The CSFA provides immediate support to the surgeon and surgical team and will act as a vital resource to the staff in the operating room suite. Assists with prompt turnover of surgical cases, case setup and proper care of surgical instruments and equipment. Performs delegated patient care duties. Call required. As defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS): The surgical first assistant in a surgical operation is a trained individual who is able to participate in and actively assist the surgeon in completing the operation safely and expeditiously by helping to provide exposure, maintain hemostasis, and other technical functions. Surgical assistants should meet national standards and be credentialed by appropriate local authority. These individuals are not authorized to operate independently. Certified Surgical First Assistants must obtain Privileges at the GFCH. Receives direction from: Operating Room RN, Surgeon Providers, Anesthesia Providers, and Periop leadership. Gives direction to: Instrument Processor, Surgical Technician, Surgical Tech Students.
