Job Summary and Qualifications The role of the Surgical Technologist III is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies. The Surgical Technologist III in 701 Surgery provides care for adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older. The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technologist III understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The Surgical Technologist III has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. When the Surgical Technologist III is in the second scrub role they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera. What qualifications you will need: Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required upon hire Two years prior experience in a similar size facility with similar services provided Must be competent to perform as lead in all of the following specialty areas: Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, Burn and Vascular Surgery Basic Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date Research Medical Center is a 585+ bed hospital.
