Performs the necessary surgical counts on sharps, small items, instruments and sponges with the circulating nurse prior to opening, during, and after closing the incision. Prepares the surgical field by opening correct supplies and preparing instruments and equipment needed for the scheduled case. Assures all materials are available and in working order and verifies own skill in using equipment correctly. Provides indirect patient care activities such as patient transportation. Assist with standard work and cleaning at completion of procedure. Maintains aseptic technique; actively monitors situations that could lead to a breach in aseptic technique. Communicates and immediately corrects breaks in aseptic technique. Ensures that equipment is functioning properly and immediately notifies appropriate personnel of any problems. Tests equipment prior to use on field. Adheres to the LPCHS unit policies regarding equipment maintenance. Assists with restraining uncooperative/combative patient in a safe manner. Serves as a role model for Surgical Tech I & II. Collaborates on the development and provision of competency-based orientation for scrub role for all services. In conjunction with other team members, provides one (1) in-service/year in a related specialty service. Ensures preference card accuracy in collaboration with Surgeon, Service Lead, and Circulating Nurses. Serves as a liaison to hospital vendors and communicates all issues with Service Lead/ANM. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education : Completion of an accredited program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or formal structure surgical program (e.g., military services). Experience : Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience License/Certification RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support or Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) Certified Surgical Technologist by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Technician in Surgery - Certified by National Center for Competency Testing KNOWLEDGE These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification.
