This will make your transition an easier one with less ambiguities. 6KLM is a 28 bed Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Observation Unit. Most patients are admitted from the Emergency Department making it a great learning experience exposed to multiple diagnosis and backgrounds. You will care for a very diverse population with multiple diagnoses, with an average patient length of stay of 2 days. This is a great unit for students that like high paced environments, students still deciding what specialty to pursue post graduation and students interested in the Emergency Department (ED) and ICU. 8 hrs a week required. Med Surg and pharmacology courses completed - Unofficial transcript required at time of offer. Most patients are admitted from the Emergency Department making it a great learning experience for new graduates. You will care for a very diverse population with multiple acute and chronic illnesses including COPD, CHF, chest pain, diabetes, wounds, cellulitis, stroke, pneumonia, and minor surgical patients (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, etc). We are a fast paced medical unit with the goal for most patients to be discharged within 24-48hrs of admission. This makes the unit the perfect place to learn new skills and have the opportunity to work as a partner alongside our multidisciplinary team. Job Summary and Qualifications As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.
