Medical Intermediate Critical Care Full-Time Days 7A-7P The Medical ICCU is a state of the art 29-bed intermediate critical care inpatient unit that prides itself in providing patient centered family care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations. The mission of this unit will be to provide the utmost quality of care to patients that require a higher level of care but do not fit the care needs that an intensive care setting provides. Highlighting a care model that places focus on nurses delivering exceptional care and emphasizes a Primary Care Nursing model with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4. Nurses serving in this unit care for a diverse patient population including but not limited to neurological, medical, advanced pulmonary requiring CPAP, BiPAP, AVAPS, high-flow oxygen, or mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, metabolic, continuous intermediate cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, and patients requiring nursing interventions every 2 hours for (neuro checks, complex wound care, glucose monitoring, blood pressure, etc..); vital signs hourly for up to 4 hours. A multi-disciplinary approach to nursing care is utilized on the ICCU. RN Director of Cardiovascular ICU and Telemetry Full Time M-F 8am-5pm with after-hours call as needed The CV/CICU is a 24-bed intensive care unit providing comprehensive nursing care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Our team consistently incorporates Evidence-Based Practice to ensure high-quality, effective patient care. Through Shared Governance, staff integrate core professional values and actively contribute to a framework that aligns nursing practice with UMC’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. Staff engagement and input remain essential as we maintain and advance our Magnet® journey. Within the CV/CICU, the nursing care delivery model is Primary Nursing. The targeted nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with a 1:1 assignment for patients with higher acuity. Ratios may be adjusted by the charge nurse based on patient needs and staffing considerations. This model requires nurses to effectively coordinate interdisciplinary care and advocate for individualized patient needs. Nursing care is delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Key nursing diagnostic and therapeutic modalities include comprehensive assessments and individualized care planning, IV therapy, cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, postoperative care, safety management, skin integrity maintenance, respiratory support, psychosocial care, patient and family education, infection prevention, and medication administration. Physician coverage includes private providers, UMC-Physicians, and TTUHSC faculty and resident physicians. The following are examples of possible diagnoses appropriate for admission to the CV/CICU. This list is not all inclusive: 1. Suspected or confirmed myocardial infarction 2. Potential life-threatening dysrhythmias 3. Pacemaker insertion or malfunction 4. Unstable angina 5. Elective Cardioversion 6. Status post coronary angiogram or stent placement 7. Patients who require continuous invasive arterial or pulmonary arterial pressure monitoring. 8. Patient experiencing severe Congestive Heart Failure 9. Patient experiencing cardiogenic shock including patients that require mechanical circulatory support such as Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Impella. 10. The patient population covers patients over the age of 15 A multi-disciplinary approach to nursing care is utilized in the CV/CICU. Patient care providers will include Registered Nurses, Graduate Nurses, Nurse Technicians, Nurse Assistants/Patient Care Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Pastoral Care, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, Pharmacists, Social Services, Case Managers, Dietary, Patient Services, and Nursing Support Services. The Telemetry department provides continuous or intermittent telemetry monitoring as ordered for adult patients at UMC Health System including med-surg, intermediate care and intensive care units. Services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Telemetry can currently monitor up to 321 patients with continued expansion planned, aligning with strategic hospital growth.
