The unit serves patients aged 18 and older, providing specialized care primarily for multi-trauma, burn, vascular, and general surgical cases. All new graduate RNs (less than 6 months of RN experience) hired into regular status positions are automatically enrolled in our 12-month Nurse Residency Program in conjunction with their unit based employment. For RNs with less than 1 year of RN experience transferring from another organization with RN experience and/or participation in a formal new graduate nurse orientation program, consideration for exceptions to some or all Maine Medical Center Nurse Residency Program requirements may be made on an individual basis. We have single rooms with state-of-the-art equipment and work closely with all disciplines- surgical, cardiac, GI, genetics, renal, palliative care etc. We have Neonatologists and APP’s covering 24/7 with a nursing staff of 150. We have an active critical care transport team and a nurse driven PICC Team. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit -31 beds & Continuing Care Nursery - 20 Beds. Summary The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Maine Medical Center (MMC) is an advanced practice nurse as defined by the Maine Nurse Practice Act and/or the ANA Advanced Practice Standards (1996). The mission of the CNS is to assure the provision of expert, quality, evidence-based care for patients and families in a variety of practice settings. The CNS also provides leadership in the development of staff, resources, and programs that support the MMC mission. The CNS partners with health care providers and management teams to develop and deliver quality health care to specific patient populations within and beyond MMC.
