Shift and Status RN Professional Development Specialist, LTC Full time, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., No weekends Scope of Work The NPD-Specialist develops tools, theories, skills and knowledge to advance the practice of the NPD specialty. Using expertise in education and professional development practices, the NPD Practitioner Specialist (NPD-S) functions autonomously and in collaboration with staff, leadership, faculty and researchers to develop, implement and evaluate professional development programs that influence professional role competence, continuous learning and growth. Analyzes cost and anticipated return on investment for learning activities, programs or projects. Engages stakeholders and resources in the planning and implementation of lifelong learning activities for individuals and/or groups of learners. Measures program outcomes in terms of learning change, impact and professional role competency and revises future outcomes based on trends, evidence, and changes in stakeholder expectations. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices in collaboration with others to ensure that nursing and the organization's goals and mission are in alignment. Develops and applies appropriate measurement tools in quality improvement activities. Participates in and assists others in professional role development, practice role transitions, and succession planning. About the unit The Medical Observation Unit consists of 54 beds. Patients are categorized as Observation secondary to insurance requirements. This is a medical unit. Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department with mental status changes, long term placement needs, pain, cardiac, TIA, r/o CVA, UTI, pneumonia, geriatric, and behavioral issues. If patients meet criteria for higher level of care they will be transferred to the assigned progressive or inpatient unit. Staff complete an assessment and shift documentation according to the Observation documentation policy. There is rapid patient turnover on this unit between patient discharges and transfers. May complete 1-4 discharge, transfers, and assessments during a 12 Hour shift. We provide broad exposure to different patient populations as we support all 36+ inpatient nursing units including adults, pediatrics, and women’s health. About this unit 8NE & NW, is a 68-bed unit cardiac step-down unit that provides an intermediate level of care to patients that typically have a cardiac related diagnosis such as coronary artery disease (CAD), congestive heart failure (CHF), myocardial infarction (MI) and heart arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation (A-fib) and ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach). We also provide pre and post procedure care to patients that have undergone cardiac procedures, such as catheterization/angioplasty, stents, ablations, and placement of pacemakers, and defibrillators. Our nurses receive specialized training in arterial sheath removal and Tikosyn administration and are ACLS certified. All patients are continuously monitored by telemetry.
