Transcribes physician orders to medical record and carries out orders as written. Prepares and administers medications as per physicians’ orders and observes for adverse effects as indicated. Performs wound treatments as per physicians’ orders, observes for changes and documents accordingly as indicated. Schedules follow up appointments for residents and transportation needs as indicated. Provides nursing leadership to nursing personnel assigned to the unit. Provides direct care skills such as colostomy changes, tube feedings, wound care, suctioning, IV administration, etc. in accordance with current policies and procedures, as assigned. Performs rounds to ensure resident needs are being met and personnel are performing their assigned duties. Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team as needed to ensure residents’ needs are holistically met. Participates in management team meetings as indicated to discuss census changes, resident changes in status or care need, or complaints or concerns. May assist in evaluating work performance of nursing personnel and implements discipline according to operational policies and as directed. Informs appropriate departments of concerns or complaints and files grievances as necessary. Reports any incidents or unusual occurrences to the unit manager, assistant director or nursing or director of nursing and participates in the investigative process as needed. Participates in end of life care as required. Ensures that there is adequate stock of medications, supplies, equipment and notifies appropriate personnel of needs. Course Description UVM Medical Center offers a perioperative nursing course developed by The Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). The course consists of a didactic online web-based learning modules along with a preceptored clinical experience. Upon successful completion of the AORN web based course, the intern will receive a certificate of completion and 41.7 CEUs. Additional Information: The start date of this program is March 2nd, 2026 . For new grads: NCLEX- RN must be passed prior to the start of the program. Identifies and prioritize the facility’s educational needs through the completion of an educational needs assessment, based on the facility assessment. Works closely with the facility’s Compliance Officer and other leaders in developing a training plan that addresses all regulatory requirements and any other topics identified in the facility assessment and/or needs assessment. Develop educational calendars in accordance with the plan. Plans, schedules, conducts, and oversees orientation programs for all personnel. Tracks attendance/completion of training to ensure that all required training is received by all personnel in a timely manner. Reviews educational content to ensure the information reflects current standards of practice and facility policies and procedures. Develops or revises content as needed. Utilizes outside resources for content development, such as consultants, content experts, or electronic learning systems. Collaborates with department managers for developing competencies required for meeting residents’ needs. Assists with evaluating competencies, depending on the knowledge-based, technical, or behavioral nature of the competency. Cooperates with the Administrator during routine evaluation of the training program’s effectiveness. Schedules trainings with flexibility to ensure limited disruption of resident care, and ample opportunity for staff to attend. Posts notices of trainings in advance. Maintains all training records, reports, instructional materials, and speaker qualifications related to each educational program. Provides opportunities for staff to obtain continuing education credits for maintaining certifications/licensure. Maintains all documentation related to continuing education. Maintains attendance records and individual training records in accordance with facility policy.
