This position assists surgeons during the procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and managing surgical supplies. Surgical techs must maintain a sterile environment to prevent infections. This role must have a thorough knowledge of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques. The scope of their responsibility can vary depending on the complexity of surgeries performed. Surgical Technician Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required. Technical Diploma in Surgical Technology required. Associate Degree in Surgical Technology preferred. Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program required. BLS/CPR required upon hire or obtain prior to patient care. Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
