Responsible for the assessment and management of breastfeeding mothers and babies, particularly, those with problems or concerns. Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of nursing processes and procedures concerning lactation patient and her infant. Supports training and support of new associates on breastfeeding techniques and standards of care; serves as a subject matter expert to the units in their facility. Will need to demonstrate a developing knowledge and skills relevant to lactation and adult learning principles. Basic knowledge of Adult Learning Principles needed to plan, implement and present/facilitate education for clients and/or hospital staff. Experience demonstrating the competent assessment, treatment, and care of all ages, including, neonates.
