Advanced Practice Provider - Pediatric Otolaryngology

Overview The purpose of this position is to coordinate and support the medical needs of patients pursuing Pediatric Otolaryngology service. The position will partner with faculty physicians and residents in Otolaryngology to provide excellent clinical care and customer service for patients with Otolaryngology disorders. This position interacts with other care providers to deliver appropriate, timely care and patient education. In addition, the position will establish and maintain systems and relationships to ensure a smoother care transition from the clinic setting to outside care providers. The position will work in conjunction the Divisions faculty providers and nurse manager to continuously improve coordination of patient care and administrative systems. The position will be active in patient care through Pediatric Otolaryngology offices operated by the Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters with office locations in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Newport News. Responsibilities Provide outpatient care and medical management as directed for a variety of Pediatric Otolaryngology diagnosis. Orient residents and nursing staff to departmental treatment guidelines and protocols and monitor compliance in an effort to decrease practitioner variability, decrease cost, improve quality and patient satisfaction. Provide initial and follow-up continuity evaluation and management services to patients as assigned; provide initial consultation services; provide continuity follow-up services. Provide family education for a variety of Otolarngology disorders. Participate in the development of clinical pathways/care plans/guidelines/protocols in conjunction with faculty. Assist Pediatric faculty members with in office procedures. Facilitate communication between faculty and residents and nursing about care plans and outpatient follow-up plans. Prior experience in Otologaryngolgy related services is preferred but not but required. Overview The Department of OBGYN at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistan t to join the team. This position is responsible for front and back office procedures. This position also assists Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers with medical examination of patients. Responsibilities Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure and enters into EHR. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN. Reviews intake forms with the MD/NP/PA when needed to determine what services best suit the patient. Manages specimens that are being picked up and drop off. Chaperones when appropriate and assists during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures (such as Hysteroscopies). Maintains a clean and sterile environment in the examination rooms and triage area. Ensuring all rooms are stocked with medical supplies, as well as, clean and sterilized instruments. Dispose of contaminated supplies and medical instruments. Inventories and reorders supplies as needed. Prepare education packets. Check EMR tasks daily and document patient’s chart. Complete drug refills as directed. Change wound dressings. Assists with scheduling conflicts. Explain treatments and procedures to patients. Answers incoming telephone calls and refers calls as necessary. Also responsible for taking messages, paging doctors when appropriate, handling hospital consults, and answering inquiries. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications and Skills: Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program. Equivalent military training will be accepted. Must have certification (CMA or RMA) . Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years. Customer service-oriented individual is required. Travel amongst multiple sites is required.
