Are you living your life's work? Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) The Intensive Care Nursery is a 50 bed level 3 intensive care unit that specializes in the care of premature and critically ill infants. As part of the largest delivery service in Philadelphia, this busy unit cares for infants who require both long term and transitional care. The staff on this unit primarily care for infants who were born prematurely however other diagnosis include but are not limited to: hypoglycemia, sepsis, respiratory distress, neonatal abstinence syndrome and delayed neonatal transitions. Within the Intensive Care Nursery is a 9 bed level 2 transitional nursery that cares for lower acuity patients who are focused on gaining weight and improving feeding skills so that they can be safely discharged. The complexity of the patients on our unit requires a patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:4 depending on the acuity. The Intensive Care Nursery is a collaborative environment that uses the skill and expertise from a variety of disciplines to provide the highest level of care in a family centered environment. Using performance improvement and evidence based practice this team is always focused on improving patient care. In addition, the unit participates in numerous research studies aimed at elevat i ng neonatal care. The team is fortunate to have a staff committed to their patients and the hospital. Strong levels of teamwork in addition to high levels of autonomy have led to high nursing satisfaction and low turnover. Patients with injuries that are stable but require ongoing close monitoring are admitted to this unit directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients are also admitted to the unit as they are downgraded from the Trauma/Surgical ICU or the Trauma Step-Down Unit. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. Essential Functions: Greet and acknowledge patients in a professional and courteous manner. Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure they are comfortable. Prepare patients for examinations, complete comprehensive clinical intake. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records. Perform and document accurate blood pressure, height and weight, and patient temperature. Demonstrate appropriate chaperone technique and documentation. Assist with patient examinations and office-based procedures (Routine procedures performed during the regular course of the day including but not limited to colposcopy, IUD insertions, and endometrial biopsies). Administer medications and injections as ordered by providers. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens. Perform CLIA waived tests per Axia and Care Center Protocols Perform blood draws. Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) – Enter and send medication and test orders per provider instructions. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize medical instruments and ensure exam rooms are clean and stocked. Provide information regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care. Respond to patient inquiries both in person and over the phone. Assist with scheduling appointments and follow-up visits. Understand how to appropriately perform Nonstress Test (NST) Ensure patient safety within clinical settings. Work collaboratively with physicians, providers, nurses, and other staff to ensure efficient practice operations. Upon successful completion of competency skills training, assist in office-based surgical procedures (Anything historically performed in an Operating Room and/or requiring moderate sedation or higher including but not limited to LEEP, operative hysteroscopy, ablations, and D&Cs with or without suction) by preparing the procedure room, ensuing the availability of necessary equipment, providing support to healthcare providers during the surgeries, and post-surgical processes including disinfection. Safely and efficiently assist patients with mobility, including transferring them between examination rooms and treatment areas. Ensure compliance with all Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and policies (including HIPAA & OSHA). Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate would be a nurse that is looking to provide outstanding patient care and physical support for patients and residents on a daily basis. To do well in this role you should have your Practical Nursing license in Pennylvania. Responsibilities : Record a patient’s medical history accurately Take and record measurements of blood pressure, temperature, heart rate etc. Observe patients under treatment to identify progress, side-effects of medications etc. Monitor patients’ condition including fluid intake and output and compose patient charts Assist ailing patients in daily necessary activities such as eating, bathing etc. Administer injections, prescribed medications, enemas etc., clean and dress wounds and assist with other basic medical care tasks Collect samples for lab testing as assigned Provide emotional and psychological support when needed Communicate with patients’ family or friends to provide advice, comfort and release instructions Qualifications: LPN LICENSE IN THE STATE OF Pennsylvania!
