Description St. Croix Health is looking for a part-time (0.60 FTE) Charge Registered Nurse to work in our Med/Surg department. This position will work straight night shifts (7pm - 7:30am), every 3rd weekend and every 3rd holiday. Job Summary The Charge Nurse is responsible for coordinating the operations of the unit under guidance of the Supervisor, Manager, and/or House Supervisor. The Charge Nurse will lead the team in a professional manner, in accordance with hospital policy, to ensure the highest quality of care and promote positive outcomes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide leadership and supervision to departmental nursing staff. Monitor and coordinate the daily patient care activities of the unit; schedule staff and patients to ensure full coverage of patient care needs and to ensure effective delivery of patient care. Serve as point person for daily unit communication needs such as staff assignments, face to face communication, trouble shooting and problem resolution for day-to-day issues that arise in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provide expert, day-to-day guidance, consultation and leadership to the team including educating nursing staff on the proper care in the use and maintenance and equipment and supplies, safe patient handling, safety procedures, and infection control. Oversee and provide direct nursing evaluation and/or other related care and consultation to patients as required. Direct and oversee Certified Nursing Assistants Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs. Assess the needs of individuals, families, or communities, including assessment of individuals' home or work environments, to identify potential health or safety problems. Inform physician of patient's condition during anesthesia. Discuss illnesses and treatments with patients and family members. Assess the needs of patients' family members or caregivers. Requirements Education & Licensure: Education : o Associate’s in Nursing required o Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred License : o Current WI Registered Nurse Certifications : o BLS – required at time of hire o ACLS – required at time of hire Additional certification requirement per department: o Emergency Department – required within 6 months § ENPC § TNCC o Obstetrics - required within 6 months § NRP § STABLE § ALSO – preferred not required o Surgical Services (PACU, SDS) – required within 6 months § PALS o Infusion (not required) § ONS - preferred not required *Timing of certification requirements will start upon orientation in specific department. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of Acute Care Nursing experience required.
