Responsibilities Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director/Manager of the Perioperative Unit, the Clinical Coordinator provides care of patients within the Pre-Op/PACU Department. This position assumes clinical responsibility for the specialty by providing teaching, clinical supervision and evaluation of other personnel assigned to the area. This position is also responsible for duties outlined in the staff registered nurse job description: professional nursing care and related assistance to patients, providing direction to licensed vocational nurses and non-professional nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited nursing program and 3 years of recent clinical experience. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE: Three years clinical experience, preferably on the unit, which the Registered Nurse takes Clinical Coordinator responsibilities. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse. American Heart Association BLS required. ACLS, TNCC or equivalent within 6 months. REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated proficiency in at least 5 surgical specialties or PACU or Endoscopy preferred. Prior coordinating experience preferred. Responsibilities The Registered Nurse is one who plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during operative or other invasive procedures. Although the RN works collaboratively with other perioperative professionals (e.g.: Surgeons, anesthesia professional, surgical technologists) to meet patient needs, the RN is accountable for the patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care provided during the operative or other invasive procedure. Using clinical knowledge, judgement, and clinical reasoning skills based on scientific principles, the RN plans and implements nursing care to address the physical, psychological, and spiritual responses of the patient having an operative or invasive procedure. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE Two years of Perioperative services experience preferred or graduate of AORN Perioperative 101. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Current licensure in Texas as Registered Nurse. Certified though the American Heart Association in BLS. ACLS and PALS or ENPC required within 6 months of hire.
