Key Job Duties and Responsibilities The Registered Nurse is to provide direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants as assigned. Supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility; as well as what may be required by the Director of Nursing or Unit Manager to ensure that the highest level of quality care is maintained at all times. The following is a general list of key job duties and responsibilities in your position. Duties and Responsibilities Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility. Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility. Meet with your assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the shifts' services, programs, and activities. Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required. Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident's total regimen of care is maintained. Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions. Participate in facility surveys and inspections made by authorized government agencies as requested. Periodically review the resident's written discharge plan. Participate in the updating of the resident's written discharge plan as required. Interpret the department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required. Administer professional services such as; catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as required. Perform lab tests, blood pressures, and other routine monitored as required per the resident care plan. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary. Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign their orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies. Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe on the Physicians' Order Form. Chart nursing notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to the care. Complete accident/incident reports per facility policy. Submit to Director of Nursing or Unit Manager. Record new/changed diet orders. Forward information to the Dietary Department. Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures. Inform the Nurse Supervisor of staffing needs when assigned personnel fail to report to work. Report absentee call-ins and no call, no shows to Director of Nursing and/or Scheduling Coordinator. Review and evaluate your department's work force and make recommendations to the Nurse Supervisor. Develop work assignments and/or assist in completing and performing such assignments. Make rounds of your unit/shift to ensure staff is performing their work assignments as expected. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with co-workers and other departments within the facility. Review complaints and grievances. Report these to the Director of Nursing and/or Unit Manager. Nurse report must be given and received when coming on and off each shift. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents. Monitor your assigned personnel to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies. Recommend to the Nurse Supervisor the equipment and supply needs of your unit/shift. Review care plans daily to ensure that appropriate care is being rendered. Assist in the admission and discharge of residents. Assist residents in daily hygiene care including but not limited to bathing (bed bath, shower, tub), oral, ear, eye, facial, hair and nail care. Keep resident’s dry – changing clothing and linen when it becomes soiled or wet. Assist residents in bowel and bladder functions; collecting specimens when required. Assist in transporting residents to/from appointments, activity, and social programs. Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc. Report and, when appropriate, document, any change observed in a resident’s condition or behavior to the Charge Nurse. Assist in the care of dying residents; provide post-mortem care. Perioperative nursing incorporates the pre-procedure care, intra operative and acute post-operative care. The Perioperative nurse will use a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Perioperative nurses have adapted nursing process to include strict adherence to the surgical safety checklists, sterility, surgical counts and post-operative airway, pain and nausea management.
