Job Title: School Nurse Location: School Based Pay Grade: Hourly/Sub Rate Work Calendar: As Needed FLSA Status: N/A GENERAL PURPOSE Under the supervision of the building principals and the Coordinator of Health Services, this position provides health services to students and staff in Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) on an as-needed basis. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for students, ensuring continuity of care when the regular school nurse is absent. The substitute will adhere to all SCPS policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations. MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide Health Services to Students Provide direct nursing care, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff. Administer medications and perform medical procedures as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with SCPS policy. Maintain accurate and confidential health records. Assess students who are ill or injured and determine appropriate interventions, including dismissal from school or referral to a healthcare provider. Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding student health issues. Assist with health screenings (e.g., vision and hearing) as needed. Respond to and manage medical emergencies. Ensure a safe and sanitary clinic environment. Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford County Public Schools Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position. Respond promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information. Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position. Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality. Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public. Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers. Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality. Perform other related duties as required/assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Must hold a valid, active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Previous experience in a school setting, pediatric care, or public health is preferred but not required. Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge English grammar and usage Child growth and development Currently mandated safety regulations such as OSHA, etc. Related state regulations Skills Adhere to Guidelines of Confidentiality as outlined in Federal and State laws and county policies and procedures. Application of theory to practice by use of most recent techniques and information which govern actions Abilities Appropriate use of written and verbal communication Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals Organize and perform work independently Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled but may require some exposure to weather, and some exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements. The work is medium work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects. Overview Registered Nurse (RN) Hospice Case Manager works in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Discipline Team (IDT) to foster a quality experience in accordance with the patient and family’s care plan and wishes. The RN Case Manager plans and manages the nursing component of the hospice caseload as well as the patient's illness and symptoms. He/She re-evaluates effectiveness of interventions and adjusts the care plan as needed. Location: Alexandria, VA Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm COVID-19 vaccine required to be completed upon start Responsibilities The Registered Nurse (RN) Hospice Case Manager provides, coordinates, teaches and supervises the nursing care of hospice patients and families/caregivers. The RN Case Manager is responsible for supervising Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Patient Care Volunteers. May be asked to rotate to other regions/departments. Qualifications Experience Requirements Must have one year of staff nurse experience in a comparable setting/unit. Hospice and/or palliative care experience is strongly desired. Education Requirements Must have a degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. A BSN degree is preferred. Required Certificates and/or Licenses Must have licensure from the governing body for practice for the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia, based on the state/jurisdiction of practice. Licensure from compact state is acceptable. Healthcare Provider BLS (CPR) is required to practice in the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. A CHPN certification is a plus. Driver's License Must have a driver's license in good standing and access to a vehicle during working hours.
