The nurse is accountable to the patient, Department Manager, Department Director, Medical Director, and Chief Nurse Officer. Under the direction of the Department Manager and Medical Director, the Imaging Procedural Nurse is responsible for assisting the cardiologist and other allied professionals, both technically and clinically in the assessment, planning, executing and evaluating the care of Interventional patients. The Imaging Procedural Nurse must be willing to cross train and float to other Imaging Service areas to meet the needs of the facility. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead. Verbalizes stroke alert process. Performs and documents the NIHSS, administration and monitoring of thrombolytic therapy if patient deemed a candidate, preparation of patient for Endovascular treatment as indicated, assumes patient care of the stroke alert while in Interventional Radiology Department. Maintains currency in stroke knowledge by completing the NIHSS training and a minimum of 8 hours of stroke related training annually.
