Keeps progress notes under supervision of registered nurse for each student and summarizes for quarterly, semi-annual and annual reviews. Provides regular and PRN health care to students receiving services as instructed by registered nurse. Provides direct hygiene and health instruction to staff, students receiving services and families as required. Handles control of communicable diseases and infections through identification and assessment. Reports to consulting physician and Infection Control Nurse. Implements appropriate protective and preventive measures. Provides staff training in regard to infection control regularly and as needed. Provides first aid to students in need of immediate care, with referral to registered nurse, private physician or outside emergency services as necessary. Monitors required staff health records and provides tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Nursing (DON) is a key member of the agency’s leadership team and is responsible for the overall clinical and operational management of the Nursing Department. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high‑quality, person-centered nursing services across OPWDD and DOH certified ICF programs, and provides strategic direction that supports optimal health outcomes, regulatory compliance, and organizational excellence. Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Lead Nurse Practitioner BMT Days with Rotation - Long Island. In this role, the successful candidate provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive health care using advanced practice processes and pertinent standards of care, the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, and performance of diagnostic, therapeutic, corrective and prescriptive measures as appropriate for patient in collaboration with a specific physician on the staff of NYU Langone Health. Assume delegation responsibilities assigned by the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager and/or designated service line leadership. Serves as a liaison to nursing, care management, consult services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. Job Responsibilities: I. CLINICAL Performs all relevant clinical functions based on current evidence. Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment within the designated practice. Works collaboratively with the practice team, attending physicians, house staff, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, implement, create and modify as necessary an appropriate plan of care that considers potential outcomes and goals of care, maximizes patient/family satisfaction, and that enhances quality, access, and cost outcomes. Orders laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies as indicated, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include adjustment in plan of care or discussion with attending's, and house staff. Prescribes medication to patients according to NYS law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Evaluates patient responses to treatment and modifies treatment per clinical standards and practice protocols. Coordinates discharge planning with interdisciplinary team, patient and family to assure timely and safe discharge. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations, and bylaws of the Medical Staff Practices within scope of practice and approved delineation of privileges. Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience into patient care. Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care activities. Documents all assessments, findings, progress and care prescribed in the hospital medical records according to standards established. Practices an evidence-based approach to clinical care, using guidelines established by leading national and international nursing bodies. II. COORDINATION & CARE MANAGEMENT Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, departments, and service line. Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and to ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocol, pathways, and other means. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with patient and family members. Works collaboratively with nursing leadership to ensure timely communications with nursing staff. Interacts with other departments to ensure the seamless transitions of care through collaborative communication. Provides consultation about the patient's medical issues and plans of care to the nursing staff responsible for the patient's care. Facilitates the continuity of care across the continuum of services, e.g., home care, discharge to other facilities, and appointments with MD, etc. Facilitates timely and safe discharge of patients to the next level of care. Participates in designated activities related to regulations of relevant outside agencies. Acts as a respectful member of the health care team. LEADERSHIP / MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's shared goals and core values and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Recruitment and retention activities as delegated by service APP manager. Facilitate staff assignment and assist staff with coordination of care on assigned shift. Manage staff schedule in collaboration with APP manager to ensure adequate staffing based on departmental needs including patient census and acuity. Coordinate and facilitate new staff orientation and professional development activities for new team members, and facilitates their compliance with clinical competency and FPPE requirements during their provisional year. Support the provision of safe, quality care by assisting staff with coordination of clinical activities. Collaborate with APP manager in the development of effective team building strategies. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have current registration as Professional Nurse in New York and Registration as Nurse Practitioner in New York. Education: Master's Degree in Nursing. Certification required (as soon as feasible following graduation from NP graduate program) by ANCC or Board Certification from other specialty organization that certifies Nurse Practitioners in a clinical area of practice. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. Two years of BMT NP experience Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Nurse Practitioner-NYS Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on your selected privileges.
