Department Overview The Doernbecher Operating Room at OHSU is a high-acuity surgical environment dedicated to pediatric patients ranging from neonates to young adults. The unit consists of 10 operating rooms, including a Hybrid OR for advanced image-guided interventions and an intraoperative MRI (iMRI) suite that supports complex neurosurgical procedures and other specialized cases. Surgical services span a wide range of pediatric specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, urology, ENT, plastic surgery, gynecology, trauma, and transplant. Patients present with varying levels of acuity, from routine outpatient procedures to emergent, life-threatening conditions. In some cases, patients up to 24 years of age may be treated with anesthesia and provider approval. The multidisciplinary team includes Operating Room Registered Nurses, Cardiac Cath Registered Nurses, Certified Surgical Technologists, Surgeons, Anesthesiologists and Registered Radiology Technologists, Interventional Cardiologist, Core Techs and support staff. Teams collaborate closely to ensure safe, efficient, and developmentally appropriate surgical care for every patient. The Hybrid OR, one of the specialty rooms within the unit, is used for cardiac catheterization procedures and other complex interventions that benefit from integrated surgical and imaging capabilities. The iMRI OR supports real-time intraoperative imaging, particularly for neurosurgical procedures, improving precision and outcomes. Function/Duties of Position The department operates Monday through Friday for scheduled, urgent, and emergent procedures. The unit is staffed 24/7. Additionally, there are 3 dedicated on-call teams to provide after-hours surgical coverage seven days a week, ensuring access to critical surgical interventions for pediatric patients across the region. As part of a leading academic medical center, Doernbecher’s Operating Room supports ongoing education, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives. Department Specific Working Conditions Requires ability to push patients in stretchers around corners and through hallways throughout the shift. Requires the ability to work in a dark or dimly lit procedure room for extended periods. Requires weekend, holiday, and after-hours call; must be able to report to work within 45 minutes of being called. Must be able to stand for up to 4 continuous hours and tolerate walking or moving throughout the entire shift. Must be able to wear up to 20 pounds of lead protective equipment for procedures lasting up to 4 hours. Assume primary responsibility in an emergency situation. Assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, and communicate concerns to rounding physician. Implement changes in patient care/treatment as directed. Monitor and supervise all patient care activity during dialysis and assist as necessary. Collaborate with direct patient care team in making decisions to benefit patient care. Continuously monitor patient’s condition with regards to problems and potential complications associated with dialysis. Administer medications to patients per physician’s orders. Act as the subject matter expert and as a resource for staff members. Supervise and participate in completion of short and long term care plans. Admit new patients according to facility procedure. Ensure educational needs of patients are met and educate the patient and family about End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet and medication. Supervise the safe and effective use of all equipment involved in direct patient care. Operate all dialysis related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently when needed. Perform required testing and verification and initial the checklist for start-up and shut-down procedures as outlined in the Technical Services Manual. Complete Nurse’s Technical Training Program/Water Quality Facility Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator Assist with the interviewing of potential direct patient care staff Promote efficient use of medical supplies. Department Overview The Adult Ambulatory Oncology Clinic at OHSU Center for Health and Healing, Building 2 (CHH2) serves patients within Medical Oncology, Hematologic Malignancies, Cellular Therapy, Gynecologic Oncology, Palliative Care and Classical Hematology. We collaborate with Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Infusion services, Dietitians, Pharmacy, Social Work, Case Management and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide exceptional oncology care for our patients and community. This position works with solid tumor patients within Medical Oncology Function/Duties of Position The Registered Nurse Coordinator is a key member of a multi-disciplinary patient care team, which includes providers, residents, fellows and other clinical support staff. The RN Coordinator provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients seeking care at OHSU for Oncology services including bone marrow/stem cell transplant, cellular therapies, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments. They assess patient and family needs, assists in developing a plan of care, implements, educates, and evaluates the care delivered. The RN Coordinator serves as a key communication link between the patient, his/her family and the care team. The RN Coordinator is a continuous advocate for patients and their families, ensuring that clinical and business systems are customer service focused. The RN Coordinator practices in accord with professional standards, core values and with a commitment to service excellence. The RN Coordinator reports to the Care Management and Coordination Manager in Ambulatory Oncology. The Knight Cancer Institute provides total patient centered medical care in a practice setting staffed by faculty (Physicians, Nurse Practitioners) as well as fellows of Oregon Health & Science University. Department Specific Working Conditions Hybrid work schedule with variable 10-hour days Monday-Friday. Must be able to work in a busy clinic environment and prioritize duties with multiple interruptions throughout the day. The RN Coordinator collaborates with other members of the team to ensure that patient flow is expedited during clinical practice sessions. The RN Coordinator ensures that Provider orders that result from the new patient visit are recorded and executed. S/he also works to ensure that laboratory and other diagnostic findings are available to clinicians in a timely fashion after tests are performed. S/he tracks the post visit flow information to ensure that plans of care are executed in a timely fashion. The RN Coordinator ensures that when hospitalization is required; those patients and their family members understand prior to admission, what they can expect during the pre-hospitalization, hospital stay and post discharge period. The RN Coordinator is expected to troubleshoot any problems that patients and their families may encounter in preparing for or during their hospital stay. General Clinical/Patient Care Identifies the needs of patients through observations of disease symptoms, emotional state, cultural and socioeconomic background and response to medical regimen and treatment. Uses knowledge of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process. Incorporates assessment of pain, nutritional and functional need. Triages and responds or refers inquiries appropriately. Alerts Providers to unusual observations of patients to facilitate immediate attention e.g. respiratory distress. Inpatient Clinical Care RN Coordinator will coordinator appointments and order planned admissions and communicate the plan to the inpatient staff to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. RN Coordinator will work with the Nursing Manager and the service chief in development of protocol and pathway driven care for most common malignancies treated on the Hem/Onc service as well as key measures of quality of care for the Med Onc Service, including adherence to pathways. RN Coordinator will work with the Nursing Manager and Clinical Director to periodically review key quality indicators. On the basis of these reviews, RN Coordinator will assist the Nursing Manager and the Clinical Director in developing or modifying relevant processes of care to ensure continuous quality improvement. Outpatient Clinical Care Assesses patient/family status and needs both actual and potential according to established standards Educates patient/family on chemotherapy and plan of treatment as established by the Physician. Coordinates and implements initiation of treatment plan of care. Monitors, maintains and modifies the plan of care based on patient/family response to interventions. Collaborates with call center staff and triage nurses to triages all patient calls; triages Provider calls and assists with communication when necessary. Uses standing orders to manage patient care when appropriate triage. Recognizes and effectively responds to emergencies. Speaks with Providers directly in all emergency situations. Department Overview The Adult Ambulatory Oncology Clinic at OHSU Center for Health and Healing, Building 2 (CHH2) serves patients within Medical Oncology, Hematologic Malignancies, Cellular Therapy, Gynecologic Oncology, Palliative Care and Classical Hematology. Department Overview The Division of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery is a comprehensive team of surgeons focused on the areas of colorectal surgery, esophageal surgery, hernia surgery, treatment of pancreatic cancer and surgical nutrition. Our general surgeons support numerous clinical research trials and actively partner with scientists in the community to develop innovative surgical devices. The general surgery division also encompasses one of the largest residency programs in the country, as well as fellowships in minimally invasive surgery and colorectal surgery. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in this role will deliver consistent, high-quality medical management to inpatients on the Abdominal Wall Surgery service, primarily within acute care units. The APP will work collaboratively with attending faculty, residents, interns and the broader interdisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care, with a focus on clinical excellence, care coordination, and efficient discharge planning. Teach program courses as needed according to specified learning outcomes; academic advising and career related counseling for students; monitoring student retention and identifying and assisting at-risk students. May serve as the faculty of record and principle contact for PA/NP students and evaluate the student’s performance. Department Overview We strive to be a unified team of expert clinicians, administrators, and support staff that provides our patients with exceptional, compassionate care through strong leadership, clear communication, focused education, and evidence-based practice. 10KPV provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 16-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require medical or surgical interventions and recovery for Neurosurgical, Neurological, Stroke, Otolaryngology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) conditions. Patient Populations Neurosurgery: Involves all aspects of pre and post neurosurgery care involving frequent neuro assessment, safety checks, and pain management. Craniotomies – for intracranial hemorrhages, brain tumors, shunts, deep brain stimulators, vagal nerve stimulators, aneurysms, neuralgias, and traumatic brain injuries. Spine surgeries – for disc herniation, fractures, tumor removal, and congenital disorders. Transphenodial resection of pituitary tumors – care involves management of lumbar drains, frequent labs, close monitoring of specialized assessments. Neurology: Care for patients with encephalopathies, multiple sclerosis, Guillian-Barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis, auto-immune diseases, seizure disorders including and neurological disorders of unknown etiologies. Stroke: Certified acute care- includes frequent observation and neuro assessment, potentially unstable and at high risk for complications. Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery: Includes new tracheotomies and total laryngectomies, tissue transfers (free flap or rotational flap), thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, and resection of head and neck carcinomas.
