The school nurse scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards. Assignment: We are building a School Nurse Substitute Pool in the Columbia River Gorge. These positions are on-call/as needed. Provide health counseling and crisis intervention to students; serve as an advocate for the health rights of students and as a professional liaison between the school, family, and health community. Perform professional nursing tasks including emergency services. Serve as a resource for health education to the classroom teacher. Consult and collaborate with staff, parents and other professionals to assess student health status and make recommendations that are consistent with the individualized education plan.
