JOB TYPE Classification: Non-exempt Supervises Positions: No JOB SUMMARY Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting. • Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization. Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedures to promote patient health and wellness. • Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care. • Performs administrative support functions. • Maintains necessary skills and competencies. Assures that team members provide care that is consistent with The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements. Utilizes communication methods and tools to deliver information that improves quality of personal and organizational decisions. Collaborates with physicians to develop or improve processes surrounding care of patients. Assists with conducting departmental meetings. Creates an environment that supports and respects differences and belonging. Coaches and mentors the team in order to achieve goals. Medical Knowledge: Demonstrates core knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care. Meets and maintains required certifications and licenses. Monitors operations on a daily basis and provides guidance to the nursing team. Develops and implements plan for self-development and succession planning. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Currently enrolled student nurses who graduate December of 2025-May 2027 . BSN students who have completed their 3rd year; ASN students who have completed their 1st year. Students may remain employed as a Nurse Extern until graduation completion. Following graduation and board completion they will need to apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.
