Job Responsibilities

  • Working in contract role in a local acute facility for a designated time period (usually 10-15 weeks)
  • Planning and managing routine patient care in acute facilities
  • Monitoring patient vital signs and recording documents in a timely manner
  • Evaluating the wellbeing of patients and reporting any needs to medical staff
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of each patient, including bathing, feeding, and dressing
  • Assisting nursing and medical staff with basic medical tasks, such as administering medication
  • Changing dressings and bandages, ensuring patients are healing properly
  • Moving patients to and from wheelchairs, beds, and stretchers
  • Monitoring urinary and other drainage catheters
  • Updating patient records in a confidential manner
  • Explaining treatments and procedures to patients and families
  • Being accountable to follow and adhere to patient care plans

Qualifications and Skills

  • Active, unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license for Virginia
  • Completion of all state required training and/or state-sanctioned competency examination
  • 6 months of LPN experience
  • Immunizations as required
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • BLS certification from the AHA
