The unit is a 20 bed unit that cares for a variety of medically complex conditions including stroke, stroke like symptoms, telemetry, cardiac drips, continuous bipap and more. 3A is a certified stroke unit and staff on this floor are required to become NIHSS certified. 3A participates in the Nurse Residency Program and is a great place for new or experienced nurses. The Nursing Assistant position involves delivering clinical nursing services to patients. The Nursing Assistant functions under the supervision of a licensed nurse or therapist, providing care that does not require the judgment and skills of a licensed professional. After competency verification, the nursing assistant may deliver patient care services to the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The care may include, but is not limited to, the following: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, feeding, observing, and reporting the general well-being of the person(s) to whom they are providing care. Coordinates clerical duties of a diverse and confidential nature to maintain the efficiency of patient care areas. Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request. Responsibilities: Follows nursing assistant plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe; including, but not limited to, mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures. Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Communicate relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on the level of urgency. Report problems immediately to a professional nurse. Answer intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse. Performs patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams; i.e., NPO for labs or x-rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests. Perform safety and suicide precaution sitter duties as assigned. Assists other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested. All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities. Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience: Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate Program ; ; Must meet one or more of the following criteria: Completion of a Nursing Assistant training course, Medical Assistant training course or Patient Care Technician training course. Completion of a Clinical lab simulation course which included training on vital signs, ADLs etc. Course must be verifiable via official transcript.
