Summary:

A Registered Nurse skilled to deliver individualized nursing care to patients/families according to their identified needs. The nursing care is based on the nursing process and augments the medical plan of treatment appropriate to the Specialty Clinic.

Expected Care/ Job description: Seeing patients in clinic both before and after transplant. carrying out orders given by physician including injections, med recs, and collaborating with other specialties including lab, infusion, child life, pharmacy, social work, home health, and insurance team. Answering and addressing phone calls/emails/other forms of communication for patients and families. Scheduling follow up appointments, ordering interventions such as scans, labs, procedures. Daily chart preparation to ensure optimal clinic and patient care. Educate families on plan of care and reviewing medication use/purposes. Reporting medication dependent labs to physician for dose changes. Ordering pre transplant workup including but limited to echo, EKG, and PFTs. Assisting with HLA typing of patient/sibling, parents. Assisting with re-immunization of patients, updating shot records and communicating with PCP offices for continuation of care.

Patient population: Immunocompromised patients with severely high risk of infection and/or bleeding

Diagnosis: Immunodeficiency, leukemia, lymphoma, hematologic disorders, neuro oncology, neuroblastoma, and sickle cell patients

Preferred Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology Experience

Education:

Graduate of accredited nursing program.
Minimum of one year pediatric nursing experience preferred. Experience in a clinical setting preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Current permit or license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
Current BLS Certification.
Will obtain advanced life support certification within two years from their date of hire/transfer date.
Other certification may be required by department.
Valid Driver's License required
