Job Details
The St. Francis Hospital Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a valuable team member. Primary responsibility is the management of critically ill and complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting. This setting includes the management of patients in the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU) and Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The APP is under the direct supervision of an in-hospital 24/7 Critical Care board certified Intensivist program. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services in a specific ICU.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-system disease /failure, according to established protocols and evidence-based clinical practice standards.
- Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations.
- Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff, and healthcare interdisciplinary team members.
- Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.
- Formulate and implement a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or the intensivist.
- Utilize prescriptive privileges as allowed by NY licensure.
- Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions.
- Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
- Participate in our Clinical Education and Science Simulation center for onboarding and strengthening of both didactic and procedural skill sets.
- Develop procedural skill sets and continued competency including placement of central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, hemodialysis catheters, trans-venous pacing wires, arterial lines, PICC lines and mid lines.
- Other complex management includes mechanical support devices such as Impella, Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

Requirements:
- PA - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelor’s degree required
- NP – Current RN license and current AANP or ANCC certification
Experience
- PA – Will consider new grad with relevant PA electives or clinical background
- NP – Will consider new grad with Acute Nurse Practitioner certification (ACNP)
Certification:
- Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification (ACNP)
Additional Preferred qualifications
- Masters or Doctorate Degree in provider area of study
- For PAs, 1+ year experience as Physician Assistant in Critical Care Unit
- For NPs, 1+ year experience as Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care Unit
Salary Range
USD $66.55 - USD $93.81 /Hr.
