Registered Nurse - GI Surgery (UPMC Presbyterian/10N)

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus!

Sign-On Bonus Details:

$15,000 sign-on bonus available for graduate nurses with less than one year of RN experience with a graduation date of December 2021 and beyond
$20,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over 1 year of experience

UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Full-Time Registered Nurse to support the unit 10N GI Surgery!

About the Unit:

10 North is a 25 bed all private room Surgical unit that focuses on Gastrointestinal and Liver Surgery. The patient population consists of colon, gastric, pancreatic cancer and gastrointestinal disorders that require surgery. The liver population on the unit consists of liver resections, managing chemo patients after they have had chemotherapy, and management of common bile duct injuries. When needed we work closely with Palliative Care and Hospice to provide our patients and families comprehensive end of life care. 10 North provides state of the art surgical and oncology care which offers an opportunity to develop professional experience in all areas of surgical care.

Our Registered Nurses work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

The final job title and rate of pay will be based upon both individual qualifications and candidate choice. Any required certifications and contributions based on job title will be afforded a timeframe to obtain. The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $31.60.

We also offer a pay differential to candidates that complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and become a BSN prepared nurse.

Demonstrates a basic knowledge of research, how it affects practice and who/what resources are available to assist with evidence-based practice by asking questions, demonstrating interest, participating in unit-based journal clubs.
No RN experience required. BSN preferred.
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. UPMC approved nursing certification preferred.
Annual completion of 2 professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
