Description
St. Croix Health is seeking a RN Supervisor for our Surgical Services team. This position is a full-time (0.8 FTE - 1.0 FTE) exempt position.
The Surgical Services RN Supervisor manages the day-to-day operation of the unit to maximize patient safety, clinical outcomes, customer satisfaction and inter-departmental workflow as well as manages employee relations, oversees recruitment and onboarding activities. Also assists with performance assessments and competencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operational Accountability
- Assists the Surgical Services Manager in the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care delivery systems.
- Collaborates with Surgical Services Manager and other leadership to ensure the necessary resources are in place to execute the work of the department.
- Ensures appropriate documentation is occurring in accordance with EMR requirements and relevant compliance and policy obligations.
- Assists the Surgical Services Manager in identification of staff learning needs and development of education and competency plans consistent with unit, service line, and organization priorities, coordinates implementation of unit-based education and assists in evaluation of outcomes.
- Establishes process to assure equipment function, repair process, and routine maintenance on day-to-day basis.
2. Staff Management and Development
- Maintains open, effective communication with Surgical Services Manager in regard to development and performance of unit personnel.
- Plans, directs, and guides work of direct reports.
- Manages and monitors department schedules, ensures adequate staffing levels and coverage based on acuity and need.
- Ensures staff are appropriately trained and competent in performance of assigned duties; assesses competencies of staff on regular basis in accordance with established standards and practices.
- Coaches, mentors, and develops staff to promote skill development.
- Assist in hiring initiatives; generate requisitions, coordinate interview team, conduct interviews, select staff to fill open positions, establish training plan, assist with orientation and onboarding activities.
- Onboards, orients, and provides ongoing coaching, mentoring and support to staff. Models and teaches these skills to others.
- Conducts annual evaluations and necessary corrective action for assigned staff.
- Apprises and educates staff in new/changed regulations, policies and procedures, and compliance.
- Collaborates with preceptors to coordinate the orientation plan and schedule for each employee, based on a baseline individual learning needs assessment.
3. Performance and Quality Improvement
- Continuously seeks quality improvement and assists with ongoing quality improvement activities of the unit.
- Facilitates the integration of findings, action plans and follow—up of quality improvement activities into practice.
- Supports the use of quality and patient satisfaction data to improve care.
4. Clinical Knowledge and Scope
- Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and department by assimilation of the nursing process into practice.
- Adheres to all criteria within the scope of Staff RN job description.
- Serves as department subject matter expert regarding department policies.
- Consistently demonstrates clinical competence in nursing procedures and patient care.
Requirements
Education & Licensure:
- ASN required; BSN preferred
- Current WI RN license
Experience:
- 5 years of prior perioperative experience preferred
- 1-3 years of leadership experience preferred
