The Nursing Assistant (NA) works under the direction of a Registered Nurse to provide care for patients/families with acute and chronic diseases, disorders found in the pediatric and adolescent into the young adult populations.
Job Responsibilities under the direction of an RN:
Direct Patient Care:
Empty fluid collection containers, point of care testing: glucose, hemoculture, hemoglobin A1C, HCG. PO feeding, Bulb suctioning, and assisting with procedures. Vital signs measurement per department standards intrahospital Transport assistance and orients families to the ambulatory clinic area and assisting with labs. Assists in the retrieval and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical products that are dispensed from the Pharmacy to the appropriate patient care provider/s in a timely manner.
- Unit Maintenance:
- Keeps unit clean and orderly, cleans equipment and toys, obtains unit supplies, replaces canisters, oxygen tubing, and nebulizers per protocol. Changes needle boxes when 2/3 full. Clean rooms after discharge, return unused supplies/equipment from patient/ treatment room and collecting and distributing linens. Checks and records refrigerator temperatures and conducts and documents AED checks.
- Clerical:
- Documentation of patient data and changes by paper charting or in EMR. Phone calling/paging as directed, and coverage for clerk.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED, plus completion of program leading to certification as Nursing Assistant.
- Illinois State Certified Nurse Assistant recognized by IDPH.
- Certification must be active and in good standing.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- One year of pediatric or hospital (acute care) experience preferred.
