Salary Range: $43.4100 - $67.2500 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.
The Clinical Nurse I – Perioperative role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in a Perioperative unit. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Clinical Nurse I’s at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program.
BSN preferred.
Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows:
Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) Pre-Op, OR and PACU: BSN preferred. Experience in orthopedics preferred. Successful completion of ECG Test required for Preop and PACU only. For PACU, one year recent PACU experience in an acute care hospital or critical care unit preferred.
Operating Room (OR): One year recent OR experience in an acute care hospital or recent completion of the Hoag Perioperative Training Program required.
Post-Acute Care Unit (PACU): One year recent PACU experience in an acute care hospital or critical care unit required.
Pre-Admission Screening (PAS): Minimum one year nursing experience in a perioperative setting required.
Pre/Post Unit: One year nursing experience in a perioperative setting in an acute care hospital or an outpatient surgery center.
License Required
Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
Certifications Required
Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
Department specific certification requirements are as follows:
Heart Vascular Institute: ACLS.
CVOR: ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) Pre-op and PACU: ACLS.
HOI Surgery Center (OSCOC): ACLS and PALS
Post-Acute Care Unit (PACU): ACLS and PALS.
Pre/Post Unit: ACLS and PALS.
Certifications Preferred
Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) Pre-op and PACU: CNOR or CPAN.
Operating Room (OR): CNOR.
Post-Acute Care Unit (PACU): ASPAN certification.
Pre/Post Unit: Specialty certification.
