Position Summary
This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. The employee shall support Long Beach Memorial Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Oncology Nurse Navigator, RN is responsible for the coordination of newly diagnosed cancer patients, acting as a liaison between patients, families, community, and physicians. Additionally, the Oncology Nurse Navigator, RN is accountable for coordinating care for patients as part of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, registered nurses and/or ancillary department personnel involved with cancer patients at Saddleback Medical Center. Furthermore, the position the RN Oncology Nurse Navigator will provide cancer patients and families with information addressing their concerns, including but not limited to financial, social services, education, treatment options and access to clinical trials.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:
- Guidance:The nurse navigator can explain medical terms, the processes and order in which things need to happen; direct Patient(s) through the maze of diagnosis and treatment; lead in the transition from treatment into long-term wellness.
- Experience: The nurse navigator knows the health care system and how to maneuver within it.
- Problem Solving: The nurse navigator can help patients and their families to anticipate and address needs and find appropriate resources through the patient’s cancer care journey.
- Empowerment:Provide guidance and knowledge to patients and their families as they start their cancer journey by assisting with organizing questions to ask of clinical care team; and advocate for patient’s needs.
- Link to Resources: A positive recovery plan can be personalized by linking patients with the best resources available to the patient and their family.
- Help for Families: Provide patient and families with guidance to support each other during a time of uncertainty.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
