About the Role
The Research Grant Specialist works with the Department Manager and/or Principal Investigator, in the oversight and submission of all pre- and post- award grant administration processes of unit (division/department/center/institute). This position serves as liaison between departments, research groups, Sponsored Research Funds Administration (SRFA), and Accounting and Finance departments. The incumbent performs pre- and post- award administrative functions, including reviewing technical sections of proposals to ensure requirements are met, and preparing and/or reviewing budgets to ensure completeness and accuracy using knowledge of grant budgets, expenditure restrictions, and grant accounts. The Specialist monitors expenses, performs reconciliations and research related financial reporting of federal and non-federal grants and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DOD), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Institutional Review Board.
Qualified candidates, residing in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Colorado, Minnesota, Florida, and Georgia will be considered for this fully remote position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with PI's and SRFA staff to submit all deliverables in a timely manner.
- Performs all pre-award and post-award monthly financial projections, account reconciliations, cost transfers, progress reports, budget changes, salary allocation reviews, time and effort management reporting, purchase order reconciliation, and monitors milestones.
- Performs financial analysis and forecasting to identify relevant factor variances, formulate logical conclusions, and devise alternate solutions.
- Reviews grant applications and post award management activities, develops logical solutions to difficult or unusual problems, and provides solutions for action to leadership.
- Manages all results including invoices and subcontract paperwork, complex financial reporting processes, and fiscal responsibility for salary, supply costs and subcontracts.
- Mentors and trains grant management staff.
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED, required.
- Bachelor's degree, preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- Seven to ten (7-10) years of experience in administration of research grants or pre-award/post-award research grant experience.
- Experience working with research groups, the Office of Research Administration, Finance, Purchasing, Academic Administration, highly preferred.
Physical Demands:
Able to perform moderate lifting. Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able to read papers and online documents. Able to operate standard office equipment. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
