Job Description:
LPN/Infection Prevention Coordinator
Position Summary:
Provides nursing care to department clients/patients. Ensures corporate compliance with infection control, biomedical waste policies and universal precautions. Reviews and ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, AHCA, Manatee County Health Department, Joint Commission reports policies and standards, including meeting reporting requirements. Provides staff training and responds to infection control and biomedical waste issues, providing guidance and direction to staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed in the State of Florida as Practical Nurse; minimum of one year experience in a mental health setting. CPR certified. Outstanding organization and interpersonal skills; ability to complete reports, manage time efficiently, analyze situations and make appropriate decisions; self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
Preferred Qualification:
LPN with a background in Infection Control
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to perform intramuscular injections, vital signs and recognize test results out of normal range.
Essential Functions/Job Duties:
- Administers medications and treatment as prescribed by physician.
- Performs nursing assessments of clients/patients under supervision of RN
- Evaluates clients/patients nursing needs; develops and maintains nursing care plans.
- Provides direction/guidance to psychiatric technicians in their administering to meeting the needs of clients/patients.
- Provides medication education and related activities to clients/patients.
- Monitors seclusion and restraints for appropriate patient care and documentation.
- Ensures corporate compliance with infection control, biomedical waste policies and universal precautions.
- Reviews, CDC, OSHA, AHCA, Manatee County Health Department, Joint Commission policies and standards and reports to QA Committee and Environment of Care Committee.
- Responsible for annual Infection Control plan and goals.
- Provides staff training and coordinates with HR.
- Responds to infection control and biomedical waste issues, providing guidance and direction to staff.
- Maintains PPE supplies for all locations. Monitors staff illnesses and vaccinations Reports to Director of Nursing.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Works in well-lighted areas. Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, listening, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and manipulating tools, typing, using peripheral computer tools.
Is subjected to frequent interruptions. Is involved with clients, residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., in a behavioral health setting.
Position Type, Expected Hours of Work and Travel:
Schedule agreed upon. This is a 24 hour, 365 day facility – morning, night, evening, weekend, weekday and holiday hours may be required. Some travel is required.
