Position Description
Medical Assistant - Certified: Responsible for the delivery of patient care as directed by the physician and/or mid-level provider. Under supervision, the MA assists in the delivery of medical care to the patient in compliance with and understanding of that care and assists in running an efficient and professional practice. Understands and abides by all Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, Security policies and code of conduct by displaying ethical behavior as it applies to the scope and authority of the job. The Medical Assistant will work directly with the Provider, Practice Manager and other staff, and must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Licensed Practical Nurse: Because of their scope of practice and licensure, an LPN is expected to provide LPN duties over and above that of a Medical Assistant. The LPN is responsible for the delivery of patient care as directed by the RN and or medical provider. Assists with procedures, patient education, schedule patients for tests and appointments, accomplishes phone triage. Assists providers and RN in maintaining a consistent and smooth patient flow. The LPN must be capable of functioning as a member of the team and perform circulating duties as necessary.
Major Responsibilities
Medical Assistant - Certified :
- Rooms patients and obtains vitals. Prepares patients, including assisting patients into the examination room, providing necessary equipment, and setting up the clinical space for treatment procedures
- Ensures appropriate patient paperwork, tests, etc. are available for provider to review at time of appointment
- Within the MA's professional credentialing and the defined scope of practice in the WA state RCW the MA will provide clinical support, patient care support and documentation in the treatment and management of the patient
- Preparing or and assisting in sterile procedures within scope of practice
- Delivers immunizations, medications and injection within scope of practice
- Schedules surgeries and testing procedures
- Handles patient questions by phone or in person and when necessary escalates to the Practice Manager with appropriate documentation in the patient chart
- Orders, tracks and documents tests performed, including completion of all required forms, recording test results, and verification of appropriate documentation
- Orders medication refill within scope of practice and per established policies and procedures
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment consistent with OSHA, infectious disease controls and Jefferson Healthcare standards
- Ensures examination rooms are appropriately stocked with supplies and maintained in an orderly appearance, including, unpacking and storing supplies and notifying Practice Manager when supplies are needed
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency equipment (location, use, and maintenance)
Licensed Practical Nurse:
- Communicate regularly with RN case managers and supervisors to ensure patient care coordination
- Notifies RNs and Providers of any change in patient condition
- Rooms patients and obtains vital signs. Ensures most recent tests, etc. are available for provider to review at time of appointment
- Delivers immunizations and injections within scope of practice
- Enters the orders for medication refill within scope of practice and per established policies and procedures
- Enters orders and tracks lab tests
- Maintains medical record documentation
- Assists with procedures
- Conducts patient EKGs, ear lavage, visual and hearing screening
- Performs suture removal and dressing changes
- Performs routine phlebotomy; obtains and prepares specimens for transport
- Conducts patient follow up calls
- Performs general cleaning and organization of work area and exam rooms
- Stocks exam rooms, laboratory and supply room
- Provides patient education, procedure explanation, and obtains consent and/or ABN appropriately
- Assists with maintaining a consistent and smooth patient flow
- Communicates with front office staff in order to better communicate with patients waiting for care services
Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or GED required
- Current Washington State certification in good standing ; MA-C required or LPN required
- BLS/CPR certification required
- Two years of medical office experience preferably in a clinic setting preferred
- Experience with pediatrics an advantage
- Must stay current in knowledge base, certifications and licenses required and meet Hospital-mandated education requirements
Schedule
1.0 FTE; 40 hours/week; Day Shift: 07:00 - 17:30, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
