Description:

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Med Technologist for our Core Lab.

As a Med Technologist at MercyOne, you will act as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and uses knowledge, critical thinking skills, and judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. May be assigned to assume the duties of a charge technologist. Performs tasks and procedures specific to assigned department with minimal supervision.

  • Uses educational and technical expertise to troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status. Assists and supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives 

  • Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records. Maintains supply inventories. 

  • Trains new employees and acts as preceptor for laboratory students.  

  • Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software. 

  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.  

Schedule: Friday-Sunday 0930-2200, position must also occasionally complete phlebotomy

General Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field.

  • One-year clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or approved alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements.

  • Certification in one of the following:

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

  • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

  • Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).

  • A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the educational requirements and is eligible for the certification exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
