The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a leader who serves as an advance practitioner, educator, consultant, collaborator, and change agent in the assessment, development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of a system of care for a selected population of patients. Facilitates the development, implementation, and ongoing management of a model for professional practice that fosters the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care, as well as the professional development of staff. Supports and participates actively in implementing evidenced based practice, ongoing research and quality improvement activities. This leadership role assumes action, initiation, innovation, visible distinction, and demonstrated contribution to change.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Expert.

Serves as a clinical expert in area of specialty.
Demonstrates expert skill as a practitioner in the field of specialty
Acts as a role model in the delivery of health care, interpretation of clinical issues, and utilization of the nursing process.
Initiates and serves as a catalyst in the development and review of evidenced based standards of care and practice and clinical programs for innovative improvement in health care.
Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with members of other health disciplines to provide comprehensive care planning for patients
Exemplifies advanced professional development through involvement and leadership in external professional activities and organizations, and through involvement in research/ development activities related to areas of expertise.
Supports and mentors staff to become involved in similar activities.

Work Experience

Education and Experience

Masters of Science (MS/MSN) in Nursing with a focus as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is required. Work experience of four to five years of clinical experience in a nursing position, with at least one year in the specialty.

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or eligible for licensure in the State.

This individual has at least 7 years CNS practice.

Utilizes, teaches and embodies qualities of effective communication, reinforces the culture of civility and promotes respect in the workplace.
