PURPOSE

The ASC Surgical Scrub Technician a member of the surgical team who works with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, RNs, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery procedures. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for surgical procedures and the scrub tech role in performing these procedures.
  • Responsible for instrumentation and equipment during procedures and its use in the surgical environment.
  • Responsible for surgical scrub technician’s duties before, during and after the surgical case.
  • Assembles supplies, equipment, instruments, and all necessary items for scheduled surgical procedures in accordance with physicians’ preference cards.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment as directed.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during the procedure as well as storing and stocking supplies as directed
  • Maintains and updates instruments cards/tray lists and surgeons’ preference cards regularly.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and acts according to policy.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Maintains accurate documentation related to all sterilization records, cleaning forms, logs, etc.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) or more years of Surgical Scrub Tech experience in ASC or operating room environment if no certification.
  • One (1) or more years of Surgical Scrub Tech experience in ASC or operating room environment and one of the following certifications:
    • Has successfully completed a nationally or regionally accredited education program for surgical technologist.
    • Holds and maintains a certified surgical technology credential administered by the National board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or its successor, or other nationally recognized credentialing organization.
    • Has completed an appropriate training program for the surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the US or Public Health Service Commissioned Corp.


Certificate/License

  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card.
  • Required to maintain CPR certification during employment.
  • Annually completes continuing education to remain qualified to practice *this will be verified by the center.
